El negocio de la presidencia: Trump incrementa su fortuna en 1.400 millones de dólares en su primer año de regreso

Apenas ha transcurrido el primer año del regreso de Donald Trump a la Casa Blanca y las cifras ya dibujan un escenario de lucro personal sin precedentes en la historia de Estados Unidos. Según cálculos de The New York Times, la familia Trump ha incrementado su fortuna en más de 1.400 millones de dólares durante este periodo, utilizando la presidencia como una palanca financiera global. Otras fuentes, como la revista The New Yorker, sugieren que la cifra es aún más alta y estiman que el beneficio real podría superar los 4.000 millones de dólares.
Incluso desde sectores conservadores la alarma ha comenzado a sonar. National Review, la emblemática revista de derecha fundada por William F. Buckley, ha dedicado una serie especial a documentar cómo el republicano está “monetizando la presidencia”.
Uno de los casos más críticos es el de Changpeng Zhao, fundador de Binance. Zhao, quien se había declarado culpable de lavado de dinero en 2023, fue indultado por Trump tras su regreso al poder. Casualmente, Zhao fue pieza clave en el lanzamiento de World Financial Liberty, la empresa de criptomonedas de la familia Trump, poco antes de que el magnate asumiera el cargo.
La Casa Blanca, a través de su vocera Anna Kelly, ha mantenido una postura defensiva: "No hay conflictos de interés. El presidente Trump solo actúa en los mejores anhelos del público estadounidense". La funcionaria aseguró que los negocios son gestionados exclusivamente por los hijos del mandatario.
Inversiones extranjeras y “favores” geopolíticos
El rastro del dinero se extiende hasta el Medio Oriente. Un reporte de The Wall Street Journal reveló que un miembro de la familia real de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos invirtió secretamente 500 millones de dólares en la empresa cripto de los Trump apenas cuatro días antes de la toma de posesión. Meses después, el gobierno estadounidense levantó la prohibición de vender chips de computación avanzada a dicha monarquía.
Ante los señalamientos, la Casa Blanca, a través de su vocera Anna Kelly, ha mantenido una postura defensiva: «No hay conflictos de interés. El presidente Trump solo actúa en los mejores anhelos del público estadounidense». La funcionaria aseguró que los negocios son gestionados exclusivamente por los hijos del mandatario.
Desde el Capitolio, la minoría demócrata encabezada por el diputado Robert Garcia ha lanzado un sitio web para monitorear estos esquemas de “pago por jugar”. Según sus registros, se calculan ganancias de 2.250 millones de dólares provenientes de oligarcas extranjeros y depósitos externos, cifra que escala a los 9.700 millones si se incluyen activos digitales.
El impacto de estas prácticas ya se refleja en los indicadores internacionales. Transparencia Internacional reportó que Estados Unidos ha caído al puesto 29 en su índice anual de corrupción, su calificación más baja en la historia.
Desde la venta de acceso directo al presidente por donaciones de un millón de dólares para los festejos del 250 aniversario de la independencia, hasta la financiación privada de un nuevo salón de baile en la Casa Blanca por parte de contratistas federales, la línea entre el servicio público y el beneficio privado parece haberse borrado por completo en esta nueva era de Trump.
